I closed on dec 27. Underwriter asked me about green card. I just sent EAD copy front and back as well as AP and explained to him that EAD is like learners driving permit that is issued when your GC is under process. :D

Hi Pappu and IV seniors,
I will contribute to IV generously(monetory and otherwise) if you help us with the prefiling of EAD for approved 140's, atleast USCIS will get money from us every year and it helps us too.
We dont mind standing last in the queue for another 10 years as long as we have EAD.

Is your case at NSC? I have definitely noticed a pattern of pre-adjudcation activity from NSC for cases filed in July-August 2007.

Can Patton Boggs do better? Haven't we had more legislative success, I mean traction, when we partnered with Quinn Gillespie? Are we receiving sound advice on which of our grievances require legislative action and which ones can be redressed by a mere change in policy on the part of the executive? It looks like most of our current problems were not ushered in by any new law, but rather by a stroke of a pen in a memo by the incompetent and indifferent INS, USCIS, DOL and the State Department. No change in law was needed to make then deny us concurrent filing in Oct 2005 and allow it in July 2007. No change in law was required to deny us visa revalidation. One could argue that no change in law is required to belatedly use unused visas from the previous years. The list goes on. It should be easier to lobby a handful of buffoons in the executive branch with real power than 500+ buffoons on Capitol Hill. Has Patton Boggs served us well?

Even though future VISA bulletins show PD way earlier than your PD, your I-485 may get approved since you are in the system.
So, who ever gets to apply I-485 are in much better shape than people with PDs in 2002 or 2003 but do not file I-485 now.
REMEMBER, USCIS USUALLY DO NOT FOLLOW ORDER AND YOU HAVE TO BE VERY LUCKY OTHER THAN TURNING ALL THE RIGHT PAPER WORK.
This is contrary to every description of the process that I have read so far... I don't believe your I-485 will get approved just because it is in the system, the PD has to be current at the time of processing...

John Cornyn, ranking Republican on the Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship subcommittee, today introduced an amendment to the Higher Education Reconciliation, currently under consideration by the Senate, which would strengthen employer access to skilled employees.
�A key part of the American economy is our ability to innovate. Yet, today, our country�s technology companies are facing an impending crisis which requires critical interim relief,� U.S. Sen. Cornyn said today. �USCIS�s announcement this year that the cap for H-1B workers was met in just one day, coupled with the recent July announcement that employment-based visas were no longer available for those with advanced degrees, makes clear that industry needs interim relief today until we can return to comprehensive immigration reform. This amendment will go a long way to help out businesses that are the life-blood of the U.S. economy and I hope my colleagues will join me in supporting it.�
Specifically, the Cornyn Amendment would allow the Department of State and DHS to �recapture� unused employment-based visas. This is not an increase in employment-based numbers but rather, a direction for the agencies to use all the visa numbers that are available today. These visa numbers will be distributed to nurses and physical therapists and aliens with extraordinary ability, advanced degrees, and needed skills. In addition, the Cornyn Amendment also includes a one-time H-1B increase of 115,000 (up from the 65,000) for FY 2008 only.
So maybe the H-1B provision killed it??

In a weird way, I feel this is good news. An old saying in China says 'Things will turn to their opposite at their extremes'. The moment before dawn is the darkest hour of the day.
I agree. I think we can use this statement to show our plight to the media/congress. A doctor, engineer, lawyer, scientist, etc from Chindia have to wait for decades to get a green card (that too under EB-2 category). If we use this properly we might have some legislative change even in the absence of CIR.
Also, I read somewhere that Janet Napolitano recently signed something which granted deferred action for two years to widows and widowers of U.S. citizens-as well as thier unmarried children under 18 years old-who reside in the US and who were married for less than two years prior to their spouse's death.
I am sure something like this can also be done for us who have been waiting for years for our GC's.

We had soft LUD on our cases as well, for both my wife and me. Hope it will be all good. My Atty mailed the application on 6/31 and it was receipted on 09/07/07.

Shouldnt this I485 number include all of following:
Employment based or
Family based or
Anyone in FBI Net (name check) or
Anyone in RFE loops etc
Those numbers can be misleading. USCIS does not count petitions pending under FBI Name Check as backlogged.

I got quite a few positive responses. On other side I got few negative messages, few pessimitics and few red dots on posts after I started this exercise. Sometimes it still bothers me but I guess I need to get out of this critics and appreciations and want to concentrate 100% on agenda: Fight against injustice in AC21 implementation.

That is exactly what I thought as well. Which is why I'm confused by posters ranting about "people who voted against SKIL bill" and getting their knickers in a twist
Correct me if I am wrong, ---but I thought that "This Ammendment" was attached to a defence bill. I dont think that it was the ammendment that was shot down, but the whole defence bill.

This particular Cornyn amendment (S.Amdt. 2339) offered to attach to H.R. 2669 (College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 ), but the motion was failed due to lack of 5 votes.(55 YEAS and 40 NAYs. Require 3/5 majority) HR.2669 is passed by both Senate and house and sent for conference to resolve the difference between house and senate versions and president is sure to sign the bill and thus would become the law in another few days. This amendment does not have anything to do with defence bill or with SKILL bill. Following is the actions taken by congress of HR 2669.
IF THE AMENDMENT HAD PASSED WE WOULD HAVE GOT ATLEAST 240,000 RECAPTURED, UNUSED VISAS OF PREVIOUS YEARS IN ANOTHER FEW DAYS.
